May 2008
From diagnosis through treatment
and beyond....I hope my journaling will be
helpful, inspirational, and motivational to you.
It's not been an easy journey, but one that has
enlightened me in many ways.

Tomorrow is the BIG day! My
husband, Justin, and 14 other "Angels" will be
walking with us in the Y-ME Race to Empower in
Grant Park, downtown Chicago!
I'm so excited and have been preparing for the
walk. It's due to rain steadily, but that won't
dampen our spirits, I'm sure! Temps are supposed
to be in the low 50's, so I'm layering and
taking an extra set of clothing for after the
race.
With the rain and chilliness, I'm probably going
to scale back my walk to the 1 miler. Y-ME has
loads of things for us to see and I'm so glad
that I'm able to take part in this. I hope to
make it an annual event!
My team has raised nearly $4500 and more
donations are coming in! It's hard for me to
fathom all the support I've been receiving this
past year.
I'm feeling well and my energies have returned
to what they once were. I know I need to focus
on weight loss this next year. That's an
influencing factor in the possible return of the
breast cancer. We're planning some vacations
this summer where walking will be an important
part.
My son, Erik, sent me a pedometer to help me
keep track of how many steps I take daily. I
think the goal is 10,000 per day. I'll have to
check with him again on that.
My birthday is also in a couple of days! May
13th! It's great to be able to celebrate the big
"57"!
I hope you'll all check out the news story that
NBC 5 is doing on me. They interviewed me on
Wednesday at school, then at home, and I'll be
meeting Nesita Kwan tomorrow before the race.
She'll film the final segment with my team! It's
supposed to air on Sunday night at 10 p.m. -
Channel 5 (NBC) in Chicago. They've also put up
a link for those who don't live in the area.
You'll be able to view it at
http://homepage.mac.com/cindy_zamirowski/iMovieTheater25.html
CAREPAGES has also featured me on their
homepage! The whole NBC interview revolves
around my breast cancer, use of CarePages, and
my participation in Y-ME Race to Empower
tomorrow. It's been a whirlwind of a week!
If you're interested in more information about
me and Y-ME or would like to contribute to my
campaign, please visit
http://main.y-me.org/goto/cindy.zamirowski.
Donations are accepted up until June 20th!
I also have logowear designed for my "Cindy's
Angels"! Proceeds from the sales go to Y-ME. You
can view them at
http://www.zazzle.com/cindysangels. These
items will be available year round.
I'll post you as soon as I can after the race to
let you know how everything went. And I'll post
photos up here so you can see my team and the
day's events. It will be an early rising for
me.... 5 a.m.!
Time to get the final touches ready for
tomorrow.
Happy Mother's Day to all of our beautiful moms!
May God Bless You All!

Today marked my very first walk
with Y-ME! I can't tell you how buoyed my
spirits were to have 11 of my team members
gather around me and walk the mile. It was an
incredibly powerful experience for us all. The
weather, of course, was less than perfect. It
rained continually, but what amazed me so much
was the determination everyone had in that race
to persevere and walk or run those miles! Even
the Fire Academy was out jogging the race with
us all!
Nesita Kwan, along with her photographer, made
contact with us before the race began. They
walked with us during the race and filmed our
walk and later did an interview near the "Polish
artist pant sculptures". She talked with me
about how I became involved with Y-ME and what I
hoped my students would take with them from this
experience. They also interviewed my students
and found out that they all have had breast
cancer touch their lives in very personal ways.
I can't wait to see the segment which is
scheduled to air tonight on NBC 5 at 10 p.m.
They will post the interview to their web site
at
http://www.nbc5.com/carepages/index.html.
They already have a link up there to my CarePage
and many new people are signing up to learn more
about my journey. It's thrilling to meet new
people and to be able to share my experiences so
easily through Carepages. I really encourage
anyone who may have a health issue going on in
their lives, to consider using their services.
It's a marvelous way to share what's going on in
your particular situation and sharing it with
friends, family, and those who may need
encouragement.
Justin took some photos, so be sure to check out
my Photo Gallery! My team were troopers and I'm
looking forward to next year's walk!
I think it's time for a nap before the local
family arrives. My birthday is in two days, May
13th, so we're doing a double celebration for
Mother's Day and my birthday :). A little snooze
is just what the doctor would order.
Thank you all for your love and support! More
news coming soon...

It's so wonderful seeing
new and old friends accessing my CarePages! I
hope we can dialogue and carry on the advocacy
for more breast cancer awareness! If I can
stress two words: Digital Mammography...those
would be it! Have you scheduled yours, yet? :)
NBC 5, Nesita Kwan, did a segment on me and I
thought you might be interested in seeing it. It
was broadcast last night on their 10 p.m. news.
Some of you who are local may have seen it.

I'm so thankful that I've been able to promote
breast cancer awareness to many more women. I
think I'm taking on a new role in my
life...advocate. Thank you to all for your
continued prayers and support.
Living Cancer Free! And thankful for Digital
Mammography!

What a beautiful weekend
we’re having here in Illinois so far this
weekend. I’m happy to say that I was able to get
out into the garden and make some much needed
“dents” in the weeds and trimmings. My husband,
Justin, is a great help. He does all the “heavy
stuff” for me.
Justin heard an interesting segment on TV
yesterday concerning Vitamin D and its link to
breast cancer. I decided to follow up on it!
Are you Vitamin D deficient? If you’re not sure,
then it might be wise to find out through a
simple blood test. It’s suggested, by Dr. Tim on
ABC that we should have 1000 – 1500 units of
Vitamin D daily. Studies also suggest that
Vitamin D might help prevent other cancers as
well! Be sure to check with your physician on
the proper amount you may need, keeping in mind
we already get Vit. D in some of our foods.
Getting at least 15 minutes of direct sunshine
daily before applying sunscreen is very
beneficial to building up your Vitamin D.
ABC reported that “94% of Women deficient in
vitamin D were more likely to see cancer spread.
And 73% were more likely to die from cancer.”
Here is the link to access their video segment:

Trouble for Breast Cancer Patients” can be found

I’m heading for my recent bloodwork reports to
see how I fair and will definitely be getting
some Vitamin D tablets tomorrow after church.
Also coming up on LIFETIME in June – Jaclyn
Smith is hosting an informative and heartwarming
program which charts the history and impact of
the oldest national breast cancer organization:
Breast Cancer Network of Strength, formerly
known as Y-ME!

Thank you again to all of you for your prayers
and blessings. They have worked a miracle as I
continue my journey toward complete health.

please feel free to post a comment. I welcome
