During my journey, I've researched and found information that has helped me to improve the quality of my life. Here are some links to articles that have been of benefit.

http://www.breastcancer.org/risk/ Lower Your Risk! A tremendous amount of promising research is under way to determine the cause of breast cancer and to establish effective ways to prevent it. Still, doctors can't always explain why one woman develops breast cancer and another doesn't.

http://www.networkofstrength.org/information/bcnews/nycu/index.php News You Can Use from the Network of Strength - formerly Y-ME

To help you stay on top of the latest breast cancer-related research and findings, Breast Cancer Network of Strength brings you News You Can Use, a monthly summary of some of the latest on breast cancer research and studies.

http://www.breastcancer.org/news_research/archives/ask_expert/2008_06/index.jsp On Wednesday, June 18th our Ask-the-Expert Online Conference was called Updates from ASCO 2008. Generosa Grana, M.D., F.A.C.P. and Carol Kaplan, M.D. answered your questions about the latest research advances on screening, treatment, side effects, and more.

http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/tag/pink-ribbon/ Mammograms, New and Old - View a normal digital mammogram vs. a normal mammogram from traditional X-ray film. (Magee-Women’s Hospital of UPMC) You'll see why Digital is the only way to go!

http://www.breastcancer.org/treatment/chemotherapy/new_research/20060126.jsp While I was trying to determine if Chemo was a viable option for my treatment, I found this article on breastcancer.org, "Oncotype DX Test Helps Make Chemo Decisions for Women with ER-Positive Cancer".

http://www.arimidex.com/index.aspx Arimidex is one medication that I'm taking daily to prevent a recurrence of breast cancer. "ARIMIDEX is approved for adjuvant treatment (treatment following surgery with or without radiation) of postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer."

Are you Vitamin D deficient? ABC News has a series of videos and articles on the benefits of Vitamin D and its link to possibly preventing breast cancer and prostate cancer. I now take Vitamin D supplements daily!

http://www.networkofstrength.org/information/publications/lifeline.php I read an article in the recent "Lifeline" Winter 2008 edition of Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization entitled "Communicating with Children: How to Tell Them What You Need During Your Breast Cancer Journey". This was an important article and helped me with communicating my illness to my students.

WINTER 2005

Diet and Nutrition are very important in maintaining a healthy immune system. Y-ME has some tips and I've included a downloadable link to the "Soy" connection in their Lifeline Winter 2005 edition. Maintaining intimacy and relationships is also featured in this publication.

http://www.lifetimetv.com/breastcancer/petition/signpetition.php One additional item I’d like to share with you is an email I received from a friend concerning the “Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act, which will require insurance companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It’s about eliminating the ‘drive-through’ Mastectomy where women are forced to go home just a few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached.”

Lifetime Television has put this bill on their Web page with a petition drive to show support. Last year over half the House signed on. I hope you’ll sign the petition by clicking on the web site below. You need not give more than your name, state, and zip code. It only takes a few seconds of your time and will help so many women receive a higher quality of care. It’s my hope that you’ll pass this along to your friends and family. Thank you, on behalf of all women!
